Craigslist for Parking

Parking-Block

There has been a lot of activity lately from both drivers and parking space owners. We still continue to see about 10% of our users also sharing their spaces, which we think is a great metric.

Here are some statistics about the last 100 spaces shared:

  • Real-Time: 63
  • Monthly Micro-Share: 16
  • Monthly Full Time: 21

The real-time sharing is tricky at this stage because without density in a small area, most drivers aren't going to waste their time using our apps. Plus if you didn't download our iPhone app before, it's no longer available on the app store (we temporarily allowed our developer license to expire, but we'll get it back on the store soon). And the Android app has a bug with address searches (but works for locations nearby). So real-time sharing is going to take a while to develop both sides of the marketplace before we can rely on it for every day use (although it's still useful for individuals that happen to need parking in the spaces that we currently have, so go use it!).

But what's interesting is the rise in monthly micro-share and monthly dedicated sharing. We're seeing lots of people share their spaces this way, and it seems like people are turning to Park Circa because it's a more optimized experience than Craigslist. You don't have to list your space again every day, there is a nice map search, you can describe your space, there is a community of people looking just for parking, etc.

So we think it would be pretty cool if Park Circa became the Craigslist for Monthly Parking. If the community wants that to happen, it will happen. It's just a matter of where people decide to flock. The only thing that makes Craigslist great, is that is where the people are. So we'll see what you do. If people migrate to Park Circa for parking specific needs, the network of spaces will grow, and real-time sharing will also become more viable.

Keep it up!
